A New Thing

I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth; do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. – Isaiah 43:19
At this time of the year, I find myself feeling like “I’m so over this!” when it comes to the winter. As we creep through March, winter feels long, dark, cold, and drab, and everything in me is ready for spring. I am longing for a new thing – for plants and trees to turn green and bloom, to begin spending more time outside, and simply to have a new season to enjoy. I assume I’m not alone in this feeling – that probably many of us are ready for something new!
As we now move into April, we are finally entering into the season of Spring, and we begin this month with the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection on Easter Sunday. As the signs of spring growth begin to emerge, they are accompanied by the celebration of new life we have in Christ. Jesus’ resurrection on Easter which gives us the promise of eternal life, but it also gives us the hope of new beginnings, fresh starts, and new opportunities each day. The gift of Easter is the promise of our God who is always up to new things and bringing forth new life – not just someday, but every day. God is always doing a new thing – and no situation, no winter, no despair, not even death – is too great to hold God down or stop God from doing something new. That is what the Resurrection is all about!

In addition to Spring and Easter coming, I am also beginning to see signs of new things God is up to at Lord of Life. The Board of Ministry is hard at work discerning and diving into new opportunities and challenges for leading the church into the future. Members are jumping in to teach, lead, serve, and make ministry happen in a variety of areas. We are even rolling out new and updated opportunities for members to plug in and serve in worship. We are soon appointing the Transition Team to lead the church in self-study and to prepare the Ministry Site Profile for calling a new pastor. New life and new beginnings are emerging, and I know and trust there will be more to come, as God keeps on doing a new thing among us.
Each Spring, Easter reminds us of the new life God gives to us all, and the new things that God is always bringing about. I look forward to discovering with you what new things God will be doing this Easter season!
Peace,
Pastor Kristin
